Gruhn Guitars Martin D-45

1942 Martin D-45

The Martin D-45 is one of the most highly sought acoustics, prized for the sound of its Brazilian rosewood back and sides and its place as the biggest, fanciest flat-top in the Martin line. Even reissues from the 1990s bring some of the highest prices of any 1990s guitars. Ironically, Martin had a tough time selling the D-45 in the 1930s and early '40s. Total production of 91 averages out to less than 10 per year.

The initial production period of the D-45 ended in 1942, and this example was made in that last year. Like any good guitar, it's been played, and it's also survived an accident. The peghead was cracked, and it has been fixed by noted repairman Dan Erlewine. The neck has been refinished, and the body has some overspray and partial refinishing. With hard case it is SOLD
