1924 Gibson F-5 Mandolin signed by Lloyd Loar


The Gibson F-5 mandolins that are signed and dated by the man who designed them, Lloyd Loar,
are acknowledged by most American players as the epitome of mandolin design.



Inventory number MF8156 - 1924 Gibson F-5 mandolin, EXC, sent back to Gibson circa 1950 at
which time Gibson installed new tuners which involved dowell-filling original shaft holes and drilling new
shaft holes and refinishing the peghead, original finish oversprayed by Gibson, label signed and dated by
Lloyd Loar on December 1, 1924, no Virzi (never had one), original pickguard, bridge and tailpiece,
excellent sound and playability. According to Darryl Wolf of the F-5 journal, this is the last known Loar
signed F-5.

With circa 1950 rectangular Gibson hard case, this instrument is offered at $85,000.
