Leo Fender's fame may rest on the Telecaster and Stratocaster guitars, but the most influential, the most revolutionary Fender instrument was the Precision Bass. Before the P-Bass was introduced in 1951, few had even imagined a fretted electric solidbody bass guitar. Now the electric bass is the established standard in most forms of popular music. This 1958 Precision Bass (inv. #BF2485) has features that only appeared together for about a year. The three-tone sunburst finish came in in mid 1958, and the one-piece maple neck/fingerboard was replaced in mid 1959 by a rosewood fingerboard. This instrument also sports the gold (anodized aluminum) pickguard of mid 1957 to late 1959 and, of course, the split-coil pickup that was introduced in 1957 and remains the standard.
This instrument is in excellent condition with original instruction manual and original hard case (SOLD).
