1986 PRS Custom 24

Paul Reed Smith. Smith began building guitars in high school, and in 1985 he put his combination of traditional and modern solidbody features into full production. The most desirable version of his Custom 24 model featured a highly figured maple top and elegant flying-bird fingerboard inlays. "10 top and birds" quickly became a familiar phrase signifying the best of the best in the electric guitar world.

This Custom 24 from 1986, the second year of issue, has a "10 top" and is so designated in the control cavity but not yet on the peghead (it wouldn't become an official option until 1987). It has the "sweet switch" that was replaced by a more conventional tone control in late 1991.

This guitar (inv. #EZ4999) is in near mint condition. With its original hardshell case, it is offered at $9000.
